Latest health update

Thanks to all of you that continue to pray. I appreciate all the response that I have received through the website, Facebook and this Blog. Keep it up! I love to hear that God's people are praying.

I went to the doctor today and they did a lot of bloodwork. We will have to wait to hear the results of that. I am scheduled for next Thursday to take a Stess Test for my heart. The doctors think that my pain "could be" related to that.

Again, keep us in your prayers.

Halloween Information

WHY WE DON’T CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN
By Evangelist Duane Moore
Page 1
Rather than a specific text for our message today, please keep your Bibles open as we look together at some
great Biblical Truths about this topic – Why we don’t celebrate Halloween.
As a child, I can remember the careless times of dressing in costume and going house to house to ask for some
candy treat. At that time it all seemed so harmless to celebrate Halloween – a child’s dress up day – dressed as
your favorite cartoon character or superstar. As an adult looking back at those times, it is clear and obvious to
me that we were in error.
Today Halloween is more of an adult party time than a child’s fun time. Promoted by the beer sellers and party
shops – the day has a distinctly different feel than years ago. If you don’t believe me just visit your local retail
store or party shop and look at the costume selection – notice the price, notice the sensuality, notice the evil – I
think this will support my point.
I think we will see a very clear reason for not celebrating Halloween in the scriptures alone, but first let me offer
some very practical reasons why I won’t celebrate Halloween:
1. First, the very principal of ‘Trick or Treat’ is contrary to the concept of Good Manners that we should
endeavour to instill in our children. The idea that someone should give us something for nothing more
than fear of our retaliation is wrong. In the world of organized crime, that’s protection money; in illegal
politics it’s a bribe; in a world of street crime is robbery … do we dare play games with that which is
wrong. I should remind you too that Halloween night is noted for its ‘Tricks’ – those things that will
be rampant on this particular night – destruction of property, assault of persons, even murder. In
Detroit, MI, the city is often set ablaze by rioters on Oct 30 (they call it the Devil’s night) and Oct 31.
Children find razor blades and foreign objects in the treats and so much more. NOT SOMETHING I
WANT TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH.
2. Secondly, what lesson are we teaching our children about Heroes – do we really want them dressing like
their favorite adulterous athlete, sleazy Hollywood performer or a crooked politician. It is said that
imitation is the greatest form of flattery! Then what about the evil and the macabre? Should our
children (or adults) be dressing up as Ghost, Goblins and Witches (you know the Bible says Ex 22:18
Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.) Remember that your children will most likely select a costume
of a person they admire or want to be like when they grow up.
3. Finally, the history and practice of Halloween should persuade a Christian to avoid it! November 1 was
designated by the Roman Catholics as All Saints Day. To accommodate the heathen practice in the
areas of their conquest, Halloween (All Hallows Eve) was permitted. These feasts came from Druid
and Celtic influence. For instance, about the same time the Irish celebrated Samhain – a festival to mark
‘summer’s end’. (Samhain was also consider the God of Darkness and Death by the Druids) Harmless
enough it seems, but they believed that the veil between the living and the dead became very thin on that
particular night allowing both Harmless and Harmful spirits to return to the land of the living. This
became know as the night of the Dead. In Mexico, families ‘party’ all night on the graves of their
family members; Houdini believed he could escape from the dead on this night and groups meet with
that expectation today; Satan worshipers consider this to be the holiest of their nights.
Consider some of the traditions practiced today and their origin. On ALL HALLOWS EVE
disembodied spirits roamed the earth seeking food or a body to possess. From this came the ‘trick or
treat’ practice. Jack-o-Lanterns with their ‘scary face’ and light inside were designed to scare away
WHY WE DON’T CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN
these evil spirits parading for food. Costumes and mask were worn so that the spirits could not
determine the living from the dead or know someone’s true identity. Today, Halloween continues as a
mixture of paganism and Roman Catholicism. It is full of
􀂅 Sinful Iniquity
􀂅 Sexual Indulgence
􀂅 Satanic Influence
Now some scriptural points to ponder:
WHY WE DON’T CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN
I. READY COMMAND OF THE SCRIPTURES
􀂅 1Th 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
With this clear mandate from the Word of God, how can we justify adorning ourselves in the evil attire of that
which is associated with wickedness – witchcraft, monsters, murderous creatures. How can we condone that
which is associated with the world – music, movie superstars, athletes and individuals of ill repute that have no
regard for the things of God? How can we adorn ourselves with the sensual and immodest apparel of the
wicked?
􀂅 Eph 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.
Paul’s admonition to the Christians at Ephesus is DON’T GIVE IN! Does the Devil really need a night to work
freely without constraint? I dare say NOT! Keep your family away from his trickery and treachery.
􀂅 Eph 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove
them. 12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
What a powerful conclusion. Paul says ‘you can’t participate in the works of darkness’ – “no fellowship” he
says. How can we reprove the world of their deeds when we are in the midst of them?
Use October to mark the conclusion of the harvest, certainly a time to be Thankful and Praise HIM, but DO
NOT disappoint our LORD by pretending to be part of the wickedness of this world. Do Not condone the
iniquity of others by participating or mimicking their sins!
WHY WE DON’T CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN
II. RISK OF BECOMING COMFORTABLE WITH SIN
I think this may be the strongest argument yet for not partaking in Halloween. The Devil knows that he can
never undermine good moral teaching by simply attacking it, but he instead will endeavor to get you
comfortable with iniquity. He wants you to let your guard down and soon you will become his prey.
Remember that great truth in Jeremiah 6 that we don’t blush at sin any longer – we have gotten used to sin.
The Devil has already made us comfortable with sex (marital, fornication, adultery – makes no difference);
cursing, violence, drugs, alcohol and on and on I could go. These things don’t embarrass us or even catch our
attention any longer.
Through Halloween, the Devil wants to make us comfortable with a deeper evil side. Halloween celebrates
witchcraft, sorcery, fortune telling, evil things, séances, evil spirits and even the Devil himself (although he
doesn’t have a red suit, horns and pointed tail).
Consider these verses to see what God thinks about this side of evil…
􀂅 Ex 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
Without fanfare God says ‘I am serious about this.’
􀂅 Le 19:26 …neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times.
􀂅 Le 19:31 Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by
them: I am the LORD your God.
Not words from a Novel but from the word of God
􀂅 Le 20:6 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a
whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among
his people.
7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to deal with God on this issue. Notice the contrast in the verses –
don’t follow spirits and wizards, but BE HOLY – you can’t do both!
􀂅 1Ch 10:13 So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even
against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had
a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;
14 And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David
the son of Jesse.
I would imagine that Saul wouldn’t be interested in celebrating Halloween wouldn’t you. He died for
embracing that spirit world. Serious? I think so. Notice the gender neutral pronoun “it” .. mark it down, that’s
not normal!
􀂅 Isa 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto
wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to
the dead?
WHY WE DON’T CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN
20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there
is no light in them.
SPEAKS FOR ITSELF
􀂅 Isa 19:3 And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst thereof; and I will destroy the counsel
thereof: and they shall seek to the idols, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar
spirits, and to the wizards.
God identifies the charmers and idols, wizards and familiar spirits as the SPIRIT OF EGYPT. We know that
Egypt is always a type of the WORLD and the FLESH and is to be avoided.
SO THAT”S OLD TESTAMENT – WHAT ABOUT THE NEW … we only need to go here!
􀂅 Ga 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication,
uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before,
as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the
kingdom of God.
Consider how these evil things are presented in such an acceptable format: Casper the Friendly Ghost; Papa
Smurf (a wizard); Bewitched, I dream of Jeanie: Sabrina the teenage witch; and Harry Potter! CAUTION – its
easy to get comfortable!
WHY WE DON’T CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN
III. REALITY OF CORRUPT SPIRITS
Finally, please note that the concept or idea of corrupt and wicked spirits is not make believe – but VERY
REAL. Though they are NOT the spirits of those who have departed this life before us – they are supernatural
creatures that exist in the invisible realm. Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in
high places. We are in a warfare like never before. Demonic and Evil Spirits are real, raging and ravaging this
generation!! They can be seen in the rock music culture, films and movies, books and such much more. Why
should we celebrate, condone or otherwise become comfortable with that dark spiritual world who are the
enemies of the church and the people of God.
2Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with
unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God
hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean
thing; and I will receive you,
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
We are not in the compromising business! We are here to WIN over these forces of evil! We can never do that
while playing with them!
I close with these thoughts from Paul to the young preacher Timothy
1Ti 4:1 ¶ Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving
heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with
thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
From these verses, take notice of the source of these false teachings and the downfall of those that fell away -
seducing spirits and doctrines of devils!
REAL? Yes they are! FREIGHTING? Yes, most Certainly! VICTORIOUS? Not in the end – for Victory
is ours. I plan to give the Devil no Victory on October 31st!
NO HALLOWEEN FOR ME!

Another Health Update

It looks like I will be losing the insurance coverage that I had. If that happens I am not sure how that I will be able to continue testing to find out what is wrong. Please make this a matter of prayer.

Saturday, October 24, 2009

I received the results of my recent CT Scan. The doctors do not believe that it is cancer, which is an answer to prayer. The bad part is that I am back to square one again... and I will start a new round of test next week. I am still in plenty of pain, so pray that it will not get any worse before the doctors can find what is "eating" at me! Thanks to all of you that have been praying.

I spent last week in Dallas area, and this week I am on my way to Little Rock for a conference. I leave there and head to Kentucky for a couple of meetings. Then it is back to Texas to help in a revival. I have been in church 12 straight days and will be for 11 more in a row! Please keep us in your prayers with all the traveling we are doing.

Health

Thank you for all of those that have been praying for me and my health. This past Friday I went in and had a CT Scan with contrast. I am waiting on the results. I will continue to post here about my health as time goes along.

Driving more careful now!

Last night I was headed home late at night on FM 2208 in Marion County, TX. The speed limit is 60 MPH, but being as tired as I was, I was going anywhere from 45-65. It was raining and dark or I would have put on my cruise. Unfortunately on of those times going 65 was coming up on a State Trooper! He obviously had nothing better to do at midnight than pull over a Baptist preacher. Guess what? I had nothing better to do than pull over! I was pretty sure that my night was getting ready to end badly. I was coming from church and was wearing a suit, and the Trooper looked a little surprised to see a dude in a suit on a Monday night in the middle of nowhere! He asked me what I did for a living, and I told him, "I am a preacher, although I am ashamed to admit it now." Thankfully, this officer had a respect for "clergy" and sent me on the way with only a warning. I wish that I could say there is a great moral to this story, but I have not thought of one yet. Could be ya'll could help me?

Rain rain go away!

"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;"

Well, so far my work for the Lord has been put on hold in Pine Bluff because of the storms. Thankfully, it looks like I might be able to go out door to door this morning, even if it rains some. The rain does not bother me-- it is the lightening that I don't like. Pray that God will do a great work this weekend at Victory Baptist in Pine Bluff.

Philippians 3:21

"Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself."

WOW! WHAT A VERSE!

A Prayer from Pine Bluff, AR

Dear Lord,

Please let the rain stop so that your word can go out. For your glory!

Greetings from Terrell, TX

Sitting at the Days Inn in Terrell, TX. Bro. Bob Chambliss and I have had a great time at Trinity Baptist Church in Wills Point, TX. We have been attending a Men's Retreat and it was quite a blessing. The preaching and singing was excellent, and I do not remember laughing so much as I have the past couple of days. Will be attending church locally tomorrow morning.

Wednesday, August 26th Sorry everyone!

I have been very bad about posting this week. I started back to Chick-fil-a and that has taken all of my energy. Today I went to the doctor, so I was pretty busy with that. Hopefully I will get back in the swing of things in a couple of days.

Saturday August 22 Update

I sold a boat and it was picked up this morning. That was a great blessing financially. I bought this boat last week and sold it this week and cleared around $400. God is good. He has already left me positive feedback on Ebay. Interesting note: the man gave me 100 dollars too much. I discovered it after he had gone. I sent him an email to find out how he wants me to get it back to him. Although I was tempted to keep it (of course!) I believe that God sends these little test along to see what we will do. I want to do the right thing! I am preaching at Farren Road Baptist tomorrow morning and will be spending the day in Texarkana.

Today I took the boys and made the trip into Longview for the afternoon. We had a good time shopping at Radio Shack, Dollar General, Office Max, Toys R Us, Academy and the Mall. We finished up the evening at Chick-Fil-A. Bro. Bob Chambliss met us there for supper. All and all I found some good deals and had a good time with the boys.

August 18 update

Not a very exciting day today. Very gloomy and rainy and I did not feel well all day. Attended Bible School in the evening. I was a soldier in the story of Daniel. I got to throw Daniel in the lions den! My role has not made me very popular with Joshua and Jonathan! I hope that they will forgive me soon!

Sunday, August 16th 10:25 PM

Attended Baptist Temple in Waskom, TX this morning. I was able to present the ministry of the Tract League and received a good response. The church has a brand new pastor and seems excited about the direction they are headed. In the afternoon I drove into Shreveport and ate lunch at KFC. Elizabeth had gotten a free meal coupon so I gladly sacrificed and used it! Later in the afternoon I hit up a Sonic for a Route 44 sweet tea. I waited over 20 minutes for that sweet tea! They invented a new meaning to fast food! Oh, well.... I am glad I was not late to anything. Sunday evening I was back in Waskom at Faith Independent Baptist Church where I was given another opportunity to present the ministry. It is a joy to serve the Lord!

Saturday, August 15th 4 PM

Getting ready to go on a boat ride with my boys. It sure is fun to have the family back! Yesterday I listed a boat on Ebay and then took the boys to my friend Brett Redman's house. We worked on another boat and then took a long ride on the "Mule". It was pretty fun flying around back roads being chased by dogs and upsetting all the feeding deer. I am sure that I have done some other things but nothing seems worthy to talk about. Elizabeth went to town and had a blast with the Kroger sales--I think she used about 35 coupons! Anyway, she brought home a ton of stuff for only 28 bucks. I am glad she knows how to save money.

Thursday, August 13

I am tired, but I safely made the trip to Dallas and back, and now the Buckner family is back together again. Elizabeth and the kids had a safe and uneventful flight. On the drive home the kids all slept-- they were tired from their early morning. We made a stop at Chick-Fil-A, and now we are unpacking and plotting our next move..... who knows what that will be!

August 12 Great night at church

Tomorrow morning I head for Dallas, TX to pick up the family at the airport. I would appreciate your prayers. I hope to get some opportunities to witness while I am there. Attended Bell Street Baptist Church tonight. Evangelist Chris Crane spoke, and it was wonderful to hear his family sing and speak. I had not seen them in over a year, so it was a blessing to catch up with them and their ministry. I went out to Wendys with Pastor Bird and his wife and the Cranes. Bell Street is having VBS next week and I will be working with them during it. Well, I better get to bed so I can drive in the morning--I need to leave by 6 AM. YUCK!!!!

Tuesday, August 11th

ELIZABETH AND THE KIDS ARE BACK!!!!!

Well, not really, but they will be soon. I am just excited already and I wanted to see how it sounds. I just returned from Texarkana. I was at Twin Cities Baptist Church for their revival, and we had a very good service tonight. Went out to eat afterwards at Dairy Queen with Bro. Dave, a lay-preacher that has become a very good friend. Need to get to bed soon because I need to make a bunch of phone calls tomorrow. If I call you please answer the phone!

Monday, August 10th

I am moving slow today! Since it is Monday, that is to be somewhat expected, but not this slow. yesterday was a busy day from start to finish. I spent the day preaching in Texarkana. Farren Road had a good attendance in the AM service. I also sold several candles, which is always a blessing to add a little $$. I ate lunch at Twin Cities Baptist Church where they were having their anniversary celebration. Then I returned to Farren Road for a wedding shower and preached the evening service. Then I went back to Twin Cities for a reception following their evening service. I got to spend some time talking with Dr. Clyde Box-- that was a blessing. Now I am trying to get a few things accomplished.

Gone Fishing! Saturday, August 8-9

Lots to tell about this fishing trip, so I will update this post tomorrow...you don't want to miss it. It involves late nights, men with guns, and rednecks! See....I told you you don't want to miss it!!

Friday, August 7, 2009

I learned about eating hot dogs and chili at 11 PM! What did I learn you ask? I learned that it is very very very bad! Especially when you eat 4 hot dogs and a whole can of chili!!! Tonight I finally recovered. Some friends took me to Catfish Village (Oh yea!) and we will see how that sets on the 'ol stomach. Anyway, I am listing on Ebay, so I got to go. I enjoy shopping, I enjoy selling, I just don't like listing. Check out Buckner's Books & Bargains sometime-- you might find a bargain!

2 AM Update: Finally done for the night, but very proud of my accomplishments on Ebay. Now if I can only get the yard mowed later on I will in excellent shape on my projects for the week.

Elizabeth and the kids update 8-07-09 12:30 PM

Elizabeth and the kids are having a great time in Minnesota. I am starting to miss them, but I am staying so busy that I have not had time to think about it much. I really started missing them this morning when I was doing laundry!! Actually I woke up sick this morning and I missed someone taking care of me! Keep them in your prayers (and me too!).

God is so good! 8-05-09 10:50 PM

Had a wonderful night at church... got to lead the music and that was a lot of fun. I do not get to do that very often anymore-- kind of remembered how much I enjoy it. Had a wonderful Christian lady come up to me and slip something in my pocket. Found out later that it was $40! The Lord knows how to take care of our every need and even our ever "want" sometimes! Also, I found out that tonight the Fairhaven Baptist Church in Mesquite voted to take us on for monthly support. That was no doubt an unexpected blessing. These things always make me realize what a small thing the pain in my arm is, because of the great God that we serve. We need to keep serving Him and He will just keep filling in all the gaps.

Psalms chapter 150
King James Version
1 Praise ye the LORD.
Praise God in his sanctuary:
praise him in the firmament of his power.
2 Praise him for his mighty acts:
praise him according to his excellent greatness.
3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet:
praise him with the psaltery and harp.
4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance:
praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals:
praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD.
Praise ye the LORD.

Things are going well for Elizabeth and the kids in Minnesota. The weather is perfect, unlike Texas, and she is having lots of fun with her family. Yesterday they went to the zoo. Joshua, Jonathan and Hannah loved that! Then they went to visit Elizabeth's grandmother, who is in bad health. Please pray for this dear lady. She recently broke her hip, and is really struggling right now. Things don't heal well when you are in you are over 90. Most important, please pray for her spiritually that she will be prepared to face eternity. I am working on some exciting new ideas for my website: Sethbucknerfamily.org. Check back often to see what is happening.

Please post on my new Message Board.

8-03-09 "Sound Doctrine Quartet" 11:45 PM

Wew! I just got home and it is pretty late. I met with Farren Road Baptist church in Red Lick, TX about their pastor situation, and then attended Twin Cities Baptist Church in Wake Village, TX. They had the "Sound Doctrine Quartet" from West Coast Baptist College singing. Below is a sample of this wonderful group singing. They are excellent and it is also a great school that God has his hand on. I was talking about passing out tracts with one of the group and he told me that the church in Lancaster knocks on every door in their valley at least 3 times every year! Wow! They also write new tracts every year that are themed to the church theme. Thank the Lord for great ministries such as this.

8-03-09 8:39 AM Dallas trip update

What a weekend! Drove to Dallas, put my family on a plane, spent the night in Irving, went to church in Irving in the morning, then went to church in Mesquite Sunday evening. I took my friend Bob Chambliss and we got to fellowship and talk quite a bit. It was a blessing to be with him. I was reminded of how that I do not want to live in the Dallas area. People drive like crazy! I think I like Jefferson better.

7-31-09 Tribute to Dr. Kendrick

This is a bit long but take the time to read it. It is worth it!
Tribute to Dr. V. Ben Kendrick
Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 9:49pm
The Gardener

Written by Mary Elizabeth Bobo

In Loving Memory of Dr. V. Ben Kendrick,

“Uncle Ben”The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

Proverbs 11:30

Once upon a time, long ago in a far away land, there lived a great King. He ruled with wisdom and kindness, and His people were happy. The King’s castle had been built on the top of a tall hill that overlooked the kingdom. The walls that surrounded it were thick and strong, but inside the gates was a beautiful courtyard. It was very mysterious indeed that the gardens within the court should be so lovely, because the ground was rough, the climate was harsh, and there were a great number of passers-by who disturbed them daily. Despite all of this, the gardens were beautiful, probably the most beautiful gardens in the entire kingdom. When asked how He managed to keep such fine grounds, the King always said it was due to the faithful old gardener. The gardener was a kind and humble man who had served in the King’s palace nearly all of his life. He loved his work, and he was a friend to all the people who came to the castle. He was also a very good teacher, so every year; he would select an apprentice from among the young people who came to the castle. Then he would teach that person all year long how to cultivate the delicate plants, how to nourish the earth, and how to protect it against the harsh weather that sometimes arose. One year, there was a young man who lived on the farthest border of the kingdom. He had heard of the great King’s beautiful courtyard, and he wished to see the grounds for himself. He traveled for weeks before he finally arrived. He was not disappointed. He had not been told the half of the beauty that lay before him on the grounds that belonged to the king. He was a curious lad, and wanted very much to know the old gardener’s secret, so he requested to be made his apprentice. The gardener, who though by this time had grown very old, agreed without hesitation. The young man soon learned that this job was not an easy one. The gardener worked every day of the week but one, from sun up to sun down. And it was not just physical labor. There were so many things that one had to learn. The gardener knew the strengths and weaknesses of each plant. He understood the seasons, and could predict the weather better than a prophet. But it was not just knowledge alone that would suffice. The gardener had to use all of these things that he had learned with wisdom, making each decision with careful consideration. Of course, on occasion it would happen that even the wise old gardener would come across a problem that all his knowledge, and wisdom, and hard work couldn’t solve. He told his apprentice that in such cases the King, Who was the greatest of all gardeners and had taught him everything he knew, would be able to solve it.The apprentice studied hard, and near the end of his year, he woke early one morning and hurried out to face a new day. He waited for the gardener next to the shed where all of their tools and supplies were kept as usual, but the gardener didn’t come. Never before had he been late. The young manwaited and waited, until night fell. Finally he walked to the gardener’s modest home. He found there a large crowd of people all with tears in their eyes. The gardener had passed away in his sleep.People came from all over for the gardener’s funeral. They looked at his beautiful grounds and sighed. “Who now would care for the lovely gardens?” was the question that everyone asked. No one could replace the gardener. His heart heavy and broken, the young man slipped off by himself into a deserted corner and cried mourning the loss of such a great man. When he finally looked up, he noticed that he was very warm even though the sun was no longer beating down upon him. In fact, he was completely covered by the shadow of the King. The apprentice bowed down before his Monarch, and as he did, he could see the last of his tears dripping off the end of his nose. The King lifted him gently and asked, “Why are you sad My young friend?” The apprentice wiped his eyes with the sleeve of his shirt before continuing. “Because, I have lost my master, and there is no one who can take his place.” He clutched his heart as spoke his next words. “There is a great void, a hole in the world today.” The King smiled at him with gentle eyes. “Come with me.” He commanded, and then He began to hike up to the highest point on the hill. The young man followed, lost in his thoughts. When they reached the top, the apprentice saw that the King was holding a shovel in His hand though he hadn’t noticed one before that moment. The King placed it into his grasp and said just one word, “Dig.” The apprentice obeyed all the while wondering what the King wanted from him. He had not been digging long before there was small but marked hole in the ground. The King placed a warm hand on the young man’s shoulder to stop him from continuing. He pointed down to where the apprentice had just been digging. “That,” He explained with emphasis, “is a hole.” After a brief pause, He continued. “Many lives are like this hole, you see. They exist, but are empty. They serve no purpose, and are very unpleasant to the eyes.” Suddenly, again seemingly out of nowhere, the King produced a beautiful rose bush, which the apprentice thought was an odd specimen for he could not see one single thorn. He did not need to wait for instruction from the King, he was a gardener and knew just what to do with it. He planted it in the hole he had just dug, replaced the soil, and patted down the earth all around it. When he looked back up at the King, they were both smiling. The King waved His hand over the beautiful rose bush and spoke again. “Some lives, some very exceptional lives are like this rose. You see instead of leaving a hole, there is a beautiful, growing, thriving plant. The life of your faithful mentor is one such exception. He does not leave hole, but a plant. And THAT is very beautiful to see.” As He said the last words, the petals of the closed roses opened into a full and beautiful bloom. Then the King turned the young man to see the view of the kingdom from the top of the hill. As far as the eye could see there were beautiful, beautiful gardens. They were all done in the same style that the old gardener had taught him, because they were all tended by his former apprentices. The great King was right. There are some people who leave this world, and they have done nothing but dig a hole. But those who are faithful and who humbly serve God everyday leave roses. And even in the saddest of moments our gracious Heavenly Father can make them bloom.

Target Deals 7-30-09

800 dollars worth--for less than $200. Ebay here I come!

7-30-09 9:25 PM

What a busy day! It was a lot of fun, work and travel but it was worth every minute of it! Elizabeth and I left the kids at a friends and went to town toy shopping in Longview, TX at Target for Christmas and Ebay. I will post a picture and details later of how we did. We spent 3 hours shopping at Target and were starting to get to know the employees real well! I am sure they wondered what on earth we were doing all that time, but at least security did not ask us to leave! After Target we headed to CVS for Elizabeth's sake, and then on to nice Italian dinner to celebrate our anniversary (late). All in all it was a fine day, but now I am faced with lots of work listing on Ebay. Visit my Ebay Store at Buckners Books and Bargains by using a search engine, or follow the link on Sethbucknerfamily.org. Will post the pictures of our "deals" later tonight.
On the spiritual side I had a great blessing discussing the Bible with a very good friend this evening. It is great to have friends that believe like you do. God bless you.

Daily Updates July

7-29-09 10:30 PM

I am in the process of adding a blog to this web site. Also, I am going to add a forum page to discuss gospel tracts. I hope that this will be beneficial to all of us. Had a pretty good day at church. Tomorrow Elizabeth and I are going out on a date with no kids! This is our very late anniversary trip. We are going to Longview to shop a little and a nice meal. No kids but I am sure they will get talked about and thought about! You parents know what I mean.

Today has been a day of rain in East Texas. Wow! We are quite flooded here. We are thankful for it though because it had gotten pretty dry. I have spent some time on Ebay working on listings. I am still working on my very delayed prayer letter, but continue to have issues. I ran out of ink in my printer, and my Dad was creating my labels and his computer won't come on! Oh, well, gives us something to work on.

7-27-09 6:38 PM

I heard from the airlines today. They called me to tell me that the flights to Honduras on next Monday have been canceled and they gave me credit that I can use anytime in the next year. We are still planning to go to Honduras but we are going to wait a bit to go... thanks to everyone that has been praying about this situation. I believe that the Lord has answered. Thank you to those of you that have contributed to this trip... I will be contacting you about your money. We are still planning to go as soon as we feel that it is the right thing to do and the right timing. The money will be kept safe (or as safe as it can be in our banks!)

7-26-09 3:30 PM

Sunday is always the best day of the week. Heard a great Sunday School lesson on John 5-6 and then a great message on hope from Lamentations. Hope that you were in church today. Had a good time this afternoon with a friend of mine named Angelo. He has a heart for the Lord and I hope that I always can be a blessing and a help to him.
